Del Mar drew their card for Wednesday, August 6, and La Grange (Jennie R., by Awesome Again) has been entered in the Grade II Sorrento Stakes. The race, for two-year-old fillies, will be run at six and a half furlongs over the Del Mar polytrack.
La Grange will be the first of Curlin’s third crop to run in a graded stakes. She is already Curlin’s first stakes winner of her year. She broke her maiden July 13, in the Cinderella Stakes at Los Alamitos. The six-furlong race was her first run on the dirt, and she came home a decisive 2 3/4 length winner. Before that, she finished second in a four and a half furlong maiden special weight over the Arlington poly. She ran well and really started to roll late; it did not appear she had a problem handling the synthetic track. From the looks of those two races, the stretch to six and a half furlongs should not be a problem either. With an emphatic stakes win under her belt, a step up to graded company is an exciting move, but also well warranted by her performance on the track.
Good luck, La Grange!
