This week’s Chicago Railbird takes a look at Arlington stakes namesake and Illinois sire Straight Line. This son of Boundary excelled in middle-distances races on dirt, and also showed he could adapt to polytrack. He was not himself bred in Illinois, but was owned during his racing career by Illinois connections and now sits sixth among sires who currently stand or last stood here in the state. Between today and tomorrow, three of his progeny are running at Hawthorne: two in races for older horses, and one in a maiden special weight for the juvenile set. Chicago Railbird dives into each of these three races, and finds particularly the juvenile race (Wednesday’s Hawthorne 4th) to be a fertile ground for long shots.
