Today’s fifth race at Hawthorne is a six-furlong allowance-optional dirt sprint for fillies and mares. The conditions are broad, and despite there being an Illinois-preferred sprint stakes next weekend, it still drew a strong, competitive field. It also has one of my favourite handicapping angles of all: a horse who fits an esoteric condition extremely snugly, as if the race were written for them.
