Picks and Ponderings: 2015 Hawthorne Gold Cup Day Stakes Recap

The biggest race day of the Hawthorne fall meet has drawn to a close.  Saturday’s card was anchored by the Hawthorne Gold Cup, the only Grade II race of the season, and the only race covering the Classic mile and a quarter distance.  Two six-furlong sprint stakes races for Illinois-preferred company supported that race: the Blackhawk Handicap for open company, and the Pershing Handicap for fillies and mares.
