Saturday, January 4 is closing day at Hawthorne, and the final race of the meet is a doozy: an open maiden special weight for three-year-old fillies that drew a full field of twelve. Seven have run before; five are first-time starters, so there’s a lot to puzzle through. And, there’s one horse I like a lot on top — and another who can improve off a strange and troubled debut, who is worth considering for a share at a big price.
