Episode 122 of Chicago Race of the Day looks at Monday’s Fairmount 7th, a race that drew a field of ten of the salty older mares on the circuit. Join me for a look at the field, their role in the pace, and where they may be in their varying points in their form cycles.

And, if you haven’t listened yet, I was on last Thursday’s episode of The Jason Beem Horse Racing Podcast! I talk a little about Chicago racing and a lot about pedigree handicapping: when it’s useful, how to approach it if you’re just getting started, and how to get what you need to make informed decisions based on pedigree.

Chicago Race of the Day: Tuesday, June 16

Tuesday’s 3rd race at Fairmount is a well-subscribed maiden special weight: ten fillies and mares, aged three and up, set to go five and a half furlongs on the dirt. It’s a fascinating race: they’re all either first-time starters or lightly raced, and no one towers on paper. That means it’s a fruitful place to look around for a square price!

Chicago Race of the Day: Tuesday, March 3

Thoroughbred horse racing in Illinois gets back underway on Tuesday, March 3. It’s not quite in Chicago, since Hawthorne is doing harness racing and casino construction through the spring and summer. But, with several Chicago barns running at Fairmount Park this spring, and so many Fairmount barns having run more horses in Chicago in recent years, Chicago Race of the Day will cover the Fairmount spring meet as if it is a Chicago meet — so, one race every live day at Fairmount until racing moves north again. To start out the spring meet, join me for a preview of Tuesday’s third race, a maiden special weight sprint for ages three and up.
