Much of what I write about horse racing is analytical. Learning about pedigrees, handicapping races, figuring out the best way to wager those picks: those things are enjoyable for their own sake, but also require the sort of analysis and argument that lead them to be interesting and topical subjects for articles.
However, what would horse racing be without room for a bit of levity? What would it be without clever names, or without humming a few bars of Hail to the Chief in honour of Barkley?
We can’t keep a straight face all the time. After all, neither do horses.
