Picks and Ponderings: Summit of Speed Preview

Over at Picks and Ponderings, I preview the five graded and listed events on Sunday’s Summit of Speed card at Gulfstream.

Summit of Speed used to be one of the marquee days of the Calder meet, a showcase of top sprinting talent.  After going on a hiatus last year due to the dates agreement between Gulfstream and Calder being resolved right around this time last year, it returns this year.  The races drew a mix of tough Gulfstream locals and proven national sprinters.

Two races, the Smile (GII) and the Princess Rooney (GII), have Breeders’ Cup berths at stake.  Each of those Grade II events has a very familiar horse for anyone who follows Chicago racing: the Smile drew defending Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion Work All Week, and the Princess Rooney drew former local allowance mainstay Phaniebdancing, who has moved into the Martin Wolfson barn after being claimed two starts back.

Head on over to Picks and Ponderings, see who I like in the five graded and listed races on Summit of Speed day, and let me know what you think in the comments!
